Mary's Court Guest House

Our Favourite Places

It is impossible to tell you about all that North Wales and the surrounding area has to offer, below is just a taste of some of ‘Our Favourite Places’, all of which are within easy reach from Mary’s Court Guest House

Betws-y-Coed (Prayer House in the Wood) is known as the `Gateway' to the Snowdonia National Park. Fairy Glen, Swallow Falls, Tree Tops Adventure and Lake Elsi are all within walking distance from our front door. There are many restaurants, outdoor shops, art galleries, tea rooms and a miniature railway within the village. Every Thursday an antiques fair is held in St Mary's Church and regularly throughout the year the Male Voice Choir performs.

If you want to explore further afield but do not want to get in the car there are excellent bus and train links within easy walking distance of Mary’s Court, or you can simply hire a bike at ‘Bikes Betws’ or bring your own and secure it in our bike store. Llanwrst is within easy cycling distance and home to the iconic ‘Tu Hwnt I'r Bont’ tea rooms (above) most recently visited in 2004 by Prince Charles and one of the most photographed buildings in Wales. If you are a more serious cyclist there are plenty of trails and routes to ride including the infamous ‘Marin Trail’ or you can stay on the road and perhaps follow the route that the ‘Tour of Britain’ recently travelled.

If you prefer high adrenaline activities then North Wales is a Mecca for the outdoor enthusiast and is rapidly becoming the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’. Why not try Zipworld or Bounce Below both recently featured on BBC’s Countryfile and in 2015 ‘Surf Snowdonia’ will be complete and only a 15 minute drive away.

Within half an hour from Mary’s Court by car or public transport you will be at the foot of ‘Mount Snowdon’ (above), the highest mountain in Wales. We can advise you on many routes, some easy, some more challenging, or you can take the train up and enjoy a coffee at the ‘Summit Café’. There are several other climbs within the Snowdonia National Park including Tryfan used by Sir Edmund Hilary before his successful climb to the summit of Everest in 1953.

Alternatively if you prefer stunning coastlines Conwy and Llandudno are only half an hour away, on your way there why not pay a visit to the beautiful National Trust Bodnant Gardens.

45 minutes away in another direction you can be exploring the stunning Italian Village at Portmeirion (below) and the many beaches at Porthmadog. Not only famous for its own pottery, Portmeirion was the backdrop for the iconic 60’s TV Programme the Prisoner.

Slightly further afield and you can be on the coast at Anglesey and Beaumaris and enjoying all they have to offer or you can travel to Abersoch (below), and the Llyn Peninsula. Abersoch is regarded as the ‘surfing capital’ of Wales and host to the annual ‘Wake Stock Festival’. As you can see from the picture below you will find it hard to find a more stunning coastline anywhere in the world.

If sports are your choice we can put you in touch with various local activities. We have close links with the local Anglers Association where you can by day tickets to fish locally, we can also store all your tackle in our secure store. Similarly we have close links with two of the regions golf courses. Lynn’s parents have both captained Maesdu Golf Club in Llandudno and we will happily arrange a discounted package for you to enjoy the course and the clubs hospitality. If you prefer to stay in Betws-y-Coed we can arrange for you to play the local 9 hole course ‘The Jewel of the Nines’. Don’t worry about storage as we can keep you clubs with us during your stay.

With so much more to offer including imposing Castles, festivals, shows, great days out and many more activities and attractions you’ll find it hard to fit everything in. If you would like more information before booking your stay or boat trip then please do note hesitate to get in touch.
